Have you ever received a gift that was personalized with an engraving? There’s something special about receiving a one-of-a-kind item that has been customized just for you. And now, with the rise of affordable laser engravers, you can make your own laser engraved items, customized to however you’d like! As I’ve played with my own engraver (the xtool M1) I thought it would be a great opportunity to share some of the items I’ve engraved as well as some fun laser engraving ideas I think you could make.
I absolutely love laser engraved gifts to give since the blanks (the item to be engraved) can be either simple or extravagant. And even the simple items come out amazing after getting personalized.

Wooden Laser Engraving Ideas
Something is just so satisfying about burning into wood. It brings out the rustic charm and natural elegance of a piece. Not to mention I simply love the smell! Wood is a classic engraved item and incredibly easy to do (probably the easiest of all materials to engrave, in my opinion).
So here are some wooden objects that are fun laser engraving ideas.
Coasters
Coasters are always a practical item to have around the house, so why not make them extra special with laser engraving? You can engrave initials, monograms, or even cute illustrations onto wooden or cork coasters for a personalized touch. This set is great because it’s made specifically for crafting.
Cutting Board
A cutting board is a classic laser engraved item. We actually received one of our dog Joker as a housewarming present. You could therefore also engrave a photo of a pet or a family recipe. This set is great because you have 3 boards to work with.
Bath Tray
Level up your self-care routine with a custom engraved bath tray (this is the one I have). Not only does it add a touch of luxury to your relaxation time, but you can also personalize it with quotes or designs to make it even more special.
Keychains
Keychains are a fun and easy item to customize with laser engraving. From initials and names, to special dates and symbols, the possibilities are endless. It’s a great way to create a personalized gift that is also useful for everyday purposes. This set from Amazon is great becasue it comes with 3 different shapes.
Engagement/Wedding Ring Box
For all the soon-to-be engaged couples, consider engraving a special message or date on a wooden ring box for a unique and memorable proposal. And for those who are already married, a laser engraved wedding ring box is a beautiful way to display and protect your rings (this is what I did to our ring boxes from Thorum).
By the way, if you want to get your own Thorum rings, use code ABCRAFTY to get 25% off your first purcahse.
Wooden Pens
Who knew that a simple pen could be so much fun to engrave? You can personalize pens with names, quotes, or even small illustrations. This makes for a great gift or even as a unique item to have in your own home office. This set of bamboo pens is perfect to have on hand!
Wooden Laser Cut Boxes
If you’re using a laser engraver such as the xtool, don’t forget you can also engrave the items you cut! For example these are my laser cut boxes and coin boxes that you can decorate with fun designs or images.
Metal Laser Engraving Ideas
Depending on the type of metal you use, it can give a unique effect. For example, brushed metals will engrave with lines through it so that’s something to keep in mind when choosing items.
Pet Tags
Don’t forget about your furry friends! Laser engraved pet tags are a great way to make sure your pet is easily identifiable and stylish at the same time. You could even engrave a funny quote or cute design on their tag. This set has a whole variety of options for all types of pets.
Jewelry
For the fashion-forward individuals, laser engraving can add a unique touch to any piece of jewelry. Engrave initials, dates, or meaningful words onto pendants, bracelets, or rings for a truly one-of-a-kind accessory. This set of blanks from Amazon keeps it simple to make cute customized pendants.
Bottle Openers
A personalized bottle opener is not only practical but also makes for a fun and thoughtful gift. Engrave names or inside jokes onto metal bottle openers for a unique and functional present. This set also provides enough space to engrave images.
Cocktail Shaker
Upgrade your home bar with a personalized cocktail shaker like this simple one from Amazon. Engrave names, cocktails recipes, or fun designs onto the metal surface for a unique and eye-catching addition to your drinkware collection.
Money Clip
For those who prefer to carry cash, a laser engraved money clip can be a stylish and practical accessory. Engrave initials or monograms for a classic touch or get creative with quotes and designs. This is the one I used to engrave for my fiance – if you use code ABCRAFTY you can get 15% off your purchase.
Metal Bracelets
Metal bracelets can also be engraved with special messages or designs. Whether it’s a simple bangle or a cuff bracelet, some ideas can include names, phone numbers, quotes, or even medical information. This set gives you a bunch of colors to choose from – you simply need to bend it after engraving!
Stainless Steel Tumblers
Tumblers are a classic laser engraved item. You can get creative with designs, names, or even inside jokes. You can engrave and just the plain steel or if you get ones that have a colored coating, the engraving will cause the metal to shine through. I do recommend getting a tumbler without a handle though (like these) as it can get caught in the machine. For round objects, you’ll want to get a rotary tool (this is the one I have).

Other Laser Engraving Ideas
Here are a bunch of other laser engraving ideas for different items you can engrave.
Stones/Rocks
Surprise your loved ones with a personalized stone or rock engraved with their name, a meaningful quote, or an intricate design. They make great paperweights or decorative pieces and are sure to be cherished for years to come. Bonus points if you tumble the rocks yourself! But these stones in the shapes of hearts are perfect to use because of their more flat design.
Patches
Patches are a fun way to customize handmade items. For example if you knit your own hat, you can add an engraved patch with your name or logo on it. This set comes with a bunch of different shapes and is a great way to label and personalize handmade gifts for your loved ones.
Glassware
From wine glasses to mason jars or these glass cans, laser engraving can add a unique touch to any glassware. Celebrate special occasions with personalized champagne flutes or create custom barware for your home.
Keep in mind some engravers can’t engrave glass, but thankfully there’s a workaround. You can paint the glass with tempera paint and then wash it off after engraving.
Flask
For the drink connoisseurs, a laser engraved flask can be both functional and stylish. Engrave names or designs onto the metal or leather surface (in the case of this one) for a personalized touch on your favorite beverage container. It makes for a great groomsman gift with each person’s initials!
Rose Gold Dipped Rose
For a super unique laser engraving idea, you can engrave a rose gold dipped rose from Forever Rose. The stem, in particular, provides a sleek, elongated surface perfect for inscribing heartfelt messages, special dates, or even small intricate designs. You could engrave a romantic quote to enhance its sentimentality or mark it with an anniversary date to commemorate a special occasion.
Glass Jars
Personalized glass jars are a delightful addition to any kitchen or home decor. With laser engraving, you can label them according to their contents such as ‘Sugar’, ‘Coffee’, or ‘Flour’, making it easy to identify what’s inside at a glance. Even more, these engraved jars make charming gifts when filled with homemade goodies or bath salts. Remember, the engraving is permanent, so it won’t fade or scratch off even after repeated use and washing.
I recently got this set of large mouth jars for various projects and intend to engrave “Crafts” on them so I know not to use them for food.
Leather Wallet
Add a touch of sophistication to a leather wallet with laser engraving. You can personalize it with initials, a monogram, or even a photo of the recipient! This one for example provides a simple base to engrave some nice details – don’t forget you can also engrave the inside.
Leather Notebook
And speaking of leather items, why not try engraving a leather notebook cover? This would make a great gift for any writer or journal enthusiast. You can even engrave a special quote or design on the cover to inspire and motivate the recipient.
