Instructions
Fold the shirt in half and draw a half of a candy corn using a washable marker. Draw two lines across the triangle.
1 White Cotton Shirt,
Washable Marker
Start at one end of the outline and accordion fold the shirt on the line. Be sure to keep the line of the fold straight.
Wrap a rubber band across the line to secure all the folds in place.
Rubber Bands or Zip Ties
Then wrap the rest of the shirt with rubber bands or zip ties.
Soak it in a solution of soda ash and water. You want to mix 1 cup of soda ash with 1 gallon of water until it’s all dissolved.
Water
Put on the gloves and cover the table with plastic wrap. Start with the orange dye and dye the bottom of the candy corn section, up to the first line.
1 Tie Dye Kit or Tie-Dye Dye and Soda Ash,
1 pair Rubber Gloves,
Plastic Wrap
Then add the yellow dye above the orange, up to the second line. Wipe the colors in between.
Paper Towels
Dye the rest of the shirt black.
Wrap it in the plastic and let it set for at least 6 hours, but I recommend giving it a full 24 hours.
Rinse it under water and remove the rubber bands or zip ties, rinsing until the water runs clear. Then wash it in the washing machine and dryer.
