Candy Corn Tie Dye Shirt

Materials
  

  • 1 White Cotton Shirt
  • Washable Marker
  • Rubber Bands or Zip Ties
  • 1 Tie Dye Kit or Tie-Dye Dye and Soda Ash
  • Water
  • 1 pair Rubber Gloves
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Paper Towels

  • Bucket or Plastic Bin

Instructions
 

  • Fold the shirt in half and draw a half of a candy corn using a washable marker. Draw two lines across the triangle.

  • Start at one end of the outline and accordion fold the shirt on the line. Be sure to keep the line of the fold straight.

  • Wrap a rubber band across the line to secure all the folds in place.

  • Then wrap the rest of the shirt with rubber bands or zip ties.

  • Soak it in a solution of soda ash and water. You want to mix 1 cup of soda ash with 1 gallon of water until it’s all dissolved.

  • Put on the gloves and cover the table with plastic wrap. Start with the orange dye and dye the bottom of the candy corn section, up to the first line.

  • Then add the yellow dye above the orange, up to the second line. Wipe the colors in between.

  • Dye the rest of the shirt black.

  • Wrap it in the plastic and let it set for at least 6 hours, but I recommend giving it a full 24 hours.

  • Rinse it under water and remove the rubber bands or zip ties, rinsing until the water runs clear. Then wash it in the washing machine and dryer.
